‘Jack’, a 39-year-old labourer, had just split from his partner of 20 years and was feeling very low. He wasn’t motivated to find work and was slowly falling into rent arrears.
With money dwindling and cupboards bare, Jack was finding himself on a downward spiral. Trying to handle the shock of a huge life change was all-consuming, and he was struggling without his normal support network. A work friend of his had heard of Lighthouse Charity, and suggested he reach out for support.
After speaking to our helpline team, Jack was assigned a caseworker to help deal with everything on his plate. To manage his immediate issues, we provided a food shop and linked with B&CE Charity to support with his rent arrears. Our caseworker also supported him in implementing a payment plan with his landlord to clear the remaining debt. Most importantly, a focus was placed on looking to a positive future, as Jack’s mindset had taken a dip.
This support gave Jack the peace of mind to find work, and he is now financially stable. With his new commitment to positivity, he can still feel sadness about his relationship breakdown but can also start to look forward.
Jack knows that we are still here for him, and additional counselling is available if he needs help acclimatising to the breakup. Grateful for the help, Jack has said he would encourage anyone that is struggling to reach out to Lighthouse for support.
