Super Sewer 7-A-Side Raises £900 For Lighthouse Club

On Friday 29 July, the football pitches at Archbishop’s Park, Lambeth, filled with teams for the Ferrovial Construction Laing O’Rourke joint venture (FLO) football tournament to fundraise for us.

The event, which played out over 3 and a half hours, saw the Blackfriars Bridge Foreshore and Chelsea Embankment teams facing off in the final. It was a hard-fought match, culminating in a 1-1 draw. Like all great finals, it went to penalties! The Blackfriars team won the shootout 5-4. So far, the tournament has raised £895 for Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity. FLO Project Director, Viv Jones, said: “Our teams had a superb afternoon competing in our 2022 project football tournament. The sun came out for us and it was made all the better with a tense penalty shootout to decide the winning team. We know how tough our industry can be, so FLO places a heavy emphasis on personal wellbeing for all our people. The work undertaken by Lighthouse Club, when people are at their most vulnerable, is an indispensable service and a cause we’re proud to have raised funds for. I look forward to the next one!”

FLO is delivering the central section of the Tideway project – London’s new super sewer. This is a 25km long tunnel deep beneath the bed of the Thames which will capture the millions of tonnes of sewage discharged into the river every year by London’s overworked Victorian sewage network. The central section of the project comprises 8 sites, with each setting up a team to compete in the 7-a-side tournament.
