Volunteer with the Lighthouse Charity
Since we were founded in 1956, we have been heavily reliant on passionate volunteers.
We are currently expanding the number of volunteer opportunities available with the Lighthouse Charity so that we can reach and help more construction workers who need our support.
Whether you are looking to give some of your own time back, or if your employer allows you time for volunteering, we have the perfect opportunity for you.
You will receive full training and, depending on your responsibilities, a volunteer pack with everything you need to represent the Lighthouse Charity.
Volunteering Roles
Become a Helpline Volunteer
Our helpline operates 24/7, 365 days a year. We have a client advisor team whose focus is on supporting people who call our helpline and start 1:1 online chat conversations.
However, there are periods when we receive an increase in volume and we never want anyone to feel like they need to wait long periods to be heard.
If you can spare a few hours a week answering calls and responding to chats, it can help our team from becoming overwhelmed and you will have helped support a construction worker when they need it most. We will provide full training to help you have those conversations.
Become an Awareness Volunteer
Over 2 million people work in construction in the UK and Ireland, making up a significant percentage of the total workforce.
We would love for every single one of those to be aware of the essential emotional, physical and financial wellbeing services that we offer to each and every one of them.
If you love attending events, presenting solutions, starting conversations and supporting people, this is your place!
Volunteer with one of Our Regions
As a Committee Volunteer, you will help plan and organise Lighthouse Region events in your local area. You will help raise awareness of the charity’s strategy in helping people in times of financial and mental difficulties within the construction industry.
As part of a team of committed volunteers, you will also help to raise awareness about the Lighthouse Charity’s work in your community, both amongst people who need our support and potential new volunteers and fundraisers, as well as taking part in local fundraising events.
This rewarding role is an opportunity to offer your time and expertise to benefit those in your community, as well as to develop new skills and meet some inspirational people.

Why Become a
Corporate Volunteer?
If your organisation provides you with the opportunity to have corporate volunteering days, or if you are looking to boost your organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility, then the Lighthouse Charity is the perfect place to use your Corporate Volunteer Days.
We do not receive any government funding. Receiving corporate donations and having the support of corporate volunteers enables us to reach more people with our message of support. Construction takes place in every corner of the UK and Ireland, and our corporate volunteers help us attend events and open discussions that we would otherwise be unable to.
What do you receive for this?
- Team building – stronger and more connected employees that have made a genuine difference in their industry and their community
- Boost your social impact and CSR initiatives.
