Homeless and in Debt

Homeless and in Debt

‘Sean’, a 42-year-old joiner has dedicated over 20 years of his life to the construction industry through a combination of contract and self-employment. Unfortunately, he faced a series of hardships that culminated in his situation including periods of sofa surfing, living in a tent and prison time. Sean’s situation was also having a serious impact on his emotional wellbeing.

Despite his resilience and an intense rehabilitation programme Sean found himself trapped in a cycle of adversity but reached out to us after finding our website whilst looking for support.  He was receiving Universal Credit but this was insufficient to secure housing, basic necessities, and tools to return to work.

We conducted a full financial and wellbeing assessment to understand Sean’s immediate needs and challenges. To address his pressing needs, we worked with his housing association to resolve his arrears which then enabled him to reapply for alternative housing. This was a crucial step towards breaking the cycle of homelessness. We helped improve his living conditions by offering support with the immediate cost of food and clothes.

Equipped with essential clothing and food support, Sean was no longer struggling with the immediate challenges of homelessness. Having cleared his arrears he was able to apply for housing. We were also able to provide tools to support his return to work as a joiner.

By addressing immediate needs, clearing barriers to housing, and facilitating a return to employment, Sean now feels empowered to take steps towards a brighter future.

“Thank you so much for your support. I am very grateful and can’t believe how much you’ve done for me.” Says Sean.
