More than £7,000 was raised for the Lighthouse Charity when the construction community from across the North East came together for our annual charity golf day at Ramside Hall Golf & Spa.
Now in its 12th year, the event welcomed 22 teams to the championship Prince Bishops Course, continuing a tradition that has become a firm fixture in the regional construction calendar. Many of the companies taking part have supported the golf day since the inaugural event in 2014, helping to make it one of the North East committee’s most successful and well supported fundraisers.
While a brisk wind kept golfers on their toes, the rain stayed away and spirits remained high throughout the day. One of the highlights came when Steve Burn achieved every golfer’s dream, recording a hole-in-one to win the nearest-the-pin competition.
There was plenty of competition on the course too, with Esh-Stantec taking first place. Tyne Tees Crushing & Screening Ltd and Northern Counties Safety Group Ltd also secured podium finishes after a closely contested day.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the day raised £7,027 through four-ball sales, mulligans, a raffle. and an auction, which generated plenty of excitement, with enthusiastic bidding throughout the room.
Sarah Sidey, Chair of our North East Regional Committee, said, “Following our 70th anniversary celebrations, it’s fantastic to see the construction sector in the North East continuing to support this vital charity.
We’re hugely grateful to everyone who took part, sponsored the event, donated prizes and supported the fundraising. The continued backing we receive from companies across the region year after year is what makes this event such a success.
As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, events like this are a reminder of the deep connection between the charity and the region where our story began. Our name and logo are inspired by St Mary’s Lighthouse on the Tyneside coast, a symbol of hope and guidance that reflects our commitment to support our community ”
The golf day was organised by our North East committee, led by Sarah Sidey, with invaluable support from Angela Carney, Managing Director of Carney Consultancy, Nick Redpath, Operations Director at Northern Counties Safety Group, Debbie Flynn, Health and Safety Awareness Officer at the Health and Safety Executive, and Rachel Howey, Senior Consultant at Daniel Owen.
We’re already looking forward to returning to Ramside Hall on Friday 1 October next year and bringing the industry together once again for another fantastic day of fundraising.
