Making Support Easy to Reach

This World Mental Health Day, the focus is clear: access to services. Because support only works if people can actually get to it when they need it, where they need it.

In construction, that’s not always simple. Long shifts, busy sites, working away from home, and the pressure to just “get on with it” can make it tough to reach out. But the truth is, help is always closer than you think. And the easier we make it to access support, the more lives we can change.

On site: small steps, big difference

Access to services starts with the basics, making sure information and people are visible on site:

  • Keep helpline cards in your pocket or toolbox, ready to share.
  • Put up posters where everyone can see them, e.g. break rooms, notice boards, site entrances.
  • Make sure your team has a trained Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) on site. Or better yet, consider training as an MHFA yourself. Being “that person” could be life-changing for someone else.

Why access matters

When support is out of reach, problems grow. But when help is easy to access, it can stop a crisis in its tracks. It can even save a life.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s make sure every worker knows: support is there. It’s free. It’s confidential. It’s available in your language. And it’s always just a call, a card, or a conversation away.
