It was a glorious day for the Limerick Hike in support of the Lighthouse Charity. Now in its third year, the hike is supported by the local community through the use of Ballinavreena Community Hall and brings together the construction community too. This year the weather was magnificent and participants enjoyed beautiful views as they hiked the Slieve Reagh summit and surrounding trails. Participants were able to choose between two routes, one a longer 12km hike and others the slightly less challenging 8km route.
The day was dedicated to movement, wellbeing, and community spirit and the hike offers a great opportunity for teams to come together outside the workplace as well as meeting people from other construction companies. As well as connecting with others, the event promotes physical and mental wellbeing through strength and resilience in a supportive environment.

Following the hike, everyone then joined together for a well deserved BBQ in the sunshine outside the community centre.
Laura Williams, Chair of Lighthouse Ireland South Committee said, “What an amazing morning and a great chance to meet and chat to other people both from the committee and to people supporting the Lighthouse Charity. Spreading the message around positive wellbeing is invaluable within the construction industry. To be able to get out into the fresh air, go at your own pace and then socialise afterwards with a BBQ really fed into the messaging around positive mental health. A huge thank you to all the supporters for once again showing up us.”
James Kavanagh, Committee Member for Ireland and Ireland South has been instrumental in organising the hike for the last three years. He added, “Each year it’s been greatly appreciated for those who attended, sponsored or even helped out in various ways. Raising awareness and having everyone talk about the services that are available through the Lighthouse Charity is crucial.”
The Ireland South Committee extend a special thank you to the Ballinvreena community who offer access to the community hall each year and to event sponsors; CField Construction for the BBQ, Jo’s Nutrition for providing protein balls, The Fruit People for providing fresh fruit, and to Roadstone & BMD who provided raffle prizes.
The committee are already looking forward to organising their next event so keep an eye out for updates!
