At 38 years old, Lyndsey, a site labourer on a large construction site, faced challenges after injuring her hand. The injury left her unable to work and led to financial difficulties, including falling behind on rent. Feeling very low and overwhelmed, Lyndsey was then also diagnosed with early arthritis in her hand. Encouraged by her manager, she reached out to us for support.
Lighthouse Charity stepped in to provide crucial support during this challenging time. We offered £500 towards Lyndsey’s rent arrears, assisted with travel expenses to help her get to work, and provided support for a food shop. This assistance was aimed at reducing her immediate financial pressures and helping her manage her daily needs while she focussed on her recovery.
During this time, Lyndsey was on statutory sick pay and struggling with the emotional impact of her injury. Our support helped her stabilise her financial situation and provided some relief from the immediate pressures of her rent and daily living costs.
Despite returning to work, Lyndsey was unfortunately laid off. However, this setback opened new opportunities for her and with a passion for boxing, she is now considering a career shift towards being a boxing trainer or coach and researching the qualifications she needs to achieve this. Whilst she explores new opportunities, she has already started a new job within construction.
With our support, Lyndsey has secured a new job in Manchester and is excited about this new chapter. She has expressed deep gratitude for the assistance she received from the Lighthouse Charity and feels encouraged to pursue her future dreams in boxing.
