Robert and Mary, an older couple, have both been facing ongoing health challenges that have made daily life increasingly difficult.
Robert is living with leukaemia and a degenerative spinal condition, while Mary has severe osteoarthritis, which has resulted in frequent hospital stays. Together, they were finding some everyday tasks and practical aspects of home life harder to manage.
A self-employed builder, Robert has reached out to us on various occasions since 2023, and we’ve been able to support him at different points along his journey. With Mary’s more recent health challenges, they both decided they could do with some extra support, so reached out to us again.
To support them during this difficult time, we provided a new washing machine to help with their day-to-day household needs. We also arranged a new bed with an orthopaedic mattress through match funding with Independence at Home, helping to improve comfort and provide better support. In addition, an application was submitted to Band of Builders for the installation of a ramp at their home, helping to improve access through their front door.
Providing practical support at the right time can make a real difference, helping to reduce some of the pressures people and families face when dealing with health issues.
Robert shared: “Mary and I would like to express our gratitude for the help and support you have given us during the last few weeks. It has not only filled our day-to-day needs, but it has also bolstered our failing health and sense of wellbeing. Thank you Andrew for your amazing support!” – Robert and Mary
