This July the team at A J Kelly & Co Ltd downed tools on a balmy Saturday evening and made their way to ‘Shrubbery Cottage’, where Office Manager Fiona Woodward-Kelly and her husband, Managing Director Adrian Kelly had opened their home up for ‘Shrubfest’.
Inspired by their recent commitment to supporting the Lighthouse Charity, and with gorgeous weather on their side, the idea of a back-garden festival fundraiser was born. They invited friends, family, staff and work colleagues to the event.
Shrubfest included a barbecue, ‘Prettiest Camping Set-Up’ competition, folk singer, band, DJ, raffle and a cocktail saloon bar. With blue skies, great music and a bar that kept giving, the mini festival felt huge in atmosphere.
Fiona and Adrian kindly covered all festival expenses as their donation, and with no ticket charge, guests were more than happy to make discretionary donations and to buy plenty of raffle tickets. In total, £1763 was raised for Lighthouse.
“As fairly new Company Supporters for the Lighthouse Charity we wanted to show additional support by holding an event and came up with ‘Shrubfest’. We are demolition contractors and acutely aware of the issue of poor mental health in the construction industry so were delighted when we found Lighthouse Charity that offers support to our employees and subcontractors. Our guests clearly agreed with the importance of the cause by the amount raised – voluntarily!”
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone at A J Kelly & Co Ltd for their incredible support. We hope to see ‘Shrubfest’ become an annual event!
