We’d like to extend a big thank you to the team at Macai, who raised £460 for the Lighthouse Charity during this year’s London Marathon.
With one of their offices based right on mile 12 of the route, the team set up a stall selling drinks and snacks to spectators. Though, unexpectedly, crowds flocked to use their facilities, generously donating in return—a surprise success they’re already factoring into next year’s plans!
The day was packed with memorable moments—from catching a glimpse of elite athletes and celebrities, to proudly watching their very own Contracts Director, Riaan, power past the stall. Two of Macai’s charity champions, Jack and Sharna, ran the stand with energy and enthusiasm, while friends, family, and colleagues turned out in force to lend their support.
Macai chose to support our charity as part of their ongoing commitment to the construction industry and the people who work in it. The London Marathon felt like a natural fit—an opportunity to raise awareness, raise funds, and connect with the wider community.
“We’re proud to support a charity that looks out for the wellbeing of people in construction,” Gemm Hale, Assistant Quantity Surveyor at Macai, told us. “It’s not just about fundraising; it’s about showing we care and being part of a more supportive industry.”
Their efforts at the Marathon form part of a wider series of fundraising events taking place throughout the year, including raffles, sweepstakes, darts nights, and a Bake Off-style competition. Plans are also underway for a London to Brighton cycle ride, a football tournament, and a golf day later in the year.
And in a delightful twist of inspiration, the whole Macai office has now entered the ballot for next year’s marathon—proof that the event left a lasting impression!
